Kate Stevenson Berger
MSc, Child Development Specialist & Expat-Kid Cultural Consultant

A native-New-Yorker, I was first drawn to the Netherlands in 2006 to study the cultural differences in fundamental, psychological processing. I understand the unique opportunity that comes with living abroad, as well as the specific challenges we face as expatriates living in Dutch society. Day-to-day life can often be a tremendous challenge, and for young people who are trying to socialize and develop  their "sense of self," these challenges can become overwhelming.

My goal is to help young people in the process of growing up, while providing them with a safe-haven to express their frustrations, and to provide coping strategies to help overcome the difficulties associated with being a foreigner in the Netherlands. While assisting young people in their expatriate lifestyles, I also aim to improve the quality of life for the entire expatriate family, thereby increasing positive interactions with Dutch society and promoting successful international relations. In the future, I hope to create the "Expat Family Resource Alliance" to provide a one-stop-shop for all types of mental and physical health services for expatriates in the Netherlands.

I hold a BA in Psychology from the George Washington University (Washington, D.C.), and an MSc in Child and Adolescent Psychology from the Universiteit Leiden. For the past few years, I have been developing my practice while working in Amsterdam in order to obtain an increased sense of the expatriate experience of integrating with Dutch society. My education, training and experience give me the unique ability to incorporate various aspects of child and adolescent psychological methods into tailor-made therapeutic programs for non-clinical young people. I incorporate a variety of techniques that include both individual and group-therapy sessions. My business, The Expat Kids Club, was approved by the Dutch government after a rigorous-scrutiny process under the terms of Dutch-American Friendship Treaty.

I am energetic and motivated to engage your kids so that "going-Dutch" becomes a fun-filled experience in which they can quickly assimilate, make friends, and contribute to your family's overall happiness.
